Today I start with oil paints. I have been using acrylics almost exclusively since I started art . I did take one semester of oil painting at the local college in the old masters style, but it was very different from what I am doing here.
I arrive at class, excited about tackling my girl that I sketched on Friday. Here we use linseed oil. In my class we cooked up or own concoction using lead. Linseed is very light and clean. They also clean their brushes with a vegetable solvent that is odorless. I am used to using Gamsol or mineral spirits which is highly flammable and toxic. I could find any of the vegetable solvent on line, but I can order from here. I did find some oil solvent from lavender spikes that I will try first. My studio will smell like a lavender field….how refreshing and serene.
I nearly finished my girl painting that I started today. I have posted the in-process on facebook. Tomorrow I am starting something really bright and wild. It is going to be so fun.
The weather was really nice outside today. I took a walk after class. I need to move around after sitting and standing for 7 hours. The gelato lines are always long, but with the temperatures so warm, they were longer today. I am not a big sweet person, so until today I haven’t been tempted with the gelato. But today I bought a coffee and chocolate 2 scooper and I must share with you that it was over the top!
